Riding
fans can choose between three horses suitable for
beginners as well as experienced riders.
A 13-year-old Maremmano, a 12-year-old German-Arab
and a 10-year-old Lipizzaner mare.
The Maremmano and German-Arab are trained to be
ridden Maremmano style which involves holding the
reins in only one hand in the tradition of the butteri
(Tuscan cowboys) who needed a hand free to hold
a stick for driving the steers.
The Lipizzaner mare is trained to be ridden both
English and Western style as well as to pull an
authentic Maremmano gig. The perfect pastime for
children who can be taken for trips around the farm
or for visits in the lovely surrounding countryside.
Outings can vary in length and difficulty depending
on the experience of the riders.
Beginners can go for rides in the farm’s olive
groves while more expert riders can venture into
the woods on the surrounding hills where they can
enjoy the splendid view.
If you ask the owner first, you can visit the “Tino
Di Moscona” fort on the “Il Poggione”
farm where you can sometimes watch the butteri at
work with the steers.
Guests are always accompanied by the owner of the
farm or by Signor Crociani Olivando, a buttero of
many years experience. Both hold an Italian Guida
Equestre Ambientale licence.
The farm is affiliated with the Italian Environmental
Equestrian Guides Association (ENGEA) and is therefore
authorised to carry out this activity.
By purchasing the special daily or weekly card guests
will receive insurance cover.
Riders proving their riding skills will receive
the 1st level diploma which is valid for one year.
We can organise rides with more horses upon request
